Hello

Hi, I'm Liz Pelly, a journalist and critic based in New York. I write about the intersections of music, technology, and digital culture. Over the past several years, I've covered the Spotify model's impacts on independent music communities, and authored big-picture reported criticism on companies like Amazon and Sofar Sounds, among other work. All of the above were published by The Baffler, where I'm a contributing editor, but my byline has also appeared at The Guardian, NPR, The New York Times, Pitchfork, and beyond. Since 2022, I've been working on my first book, Mood Machine: The Rise of Spotify and the Costs of the Perfect Playlist, which will be published in January 2025 via One Signal Publishers (in North America) and Hodder and Stoughton (in the UK). Please sign up here to be notified this fall when the book is available for pre-order, and for more eventual updates.
